Around the world a beautiful Vietnamese girl is the subject of an acrylic painting recently purchased by an American woman on her trip to Vietnam. Vietnam is now a popular vacation hot spot for Americans and other citizens of the world.
I was struck by fond memories as a young girl when I saw the painting unrolled. Amazingly, I lived in South Vietnam from 1963-1965 with my seven siblings and my step-mother and father, an officer in the USAF. My father was an advisor at the time. I made an immediate heart felt connection with this painting; I loved my little Vietnamese friends. What an honor and privilege to have lived in Dalat, Vietnam during such a conflicting period of history. My father went on to sponsor over a hundred Vietnamese during the Fall of Saigon and saved many lives during that time period. So grateful to have made a natural and unbiased cultural connection through my eyes as a child and is still with me to this day.
Currently, my customers bring me such wonderful art from around the world to custom frame. As an artist and a designer, I love bringing the final touches to artwork at The Village Frame Shop of Sedona.
The Asian influence in my own artwork and design work comes from of this magical experience as a little girl in Dalat, Vietnam. My early exposure to photography and many travels imbued an eye for contrasts and wide subject matter … what a wonderful world. When I work with others, it is heart to heart. Hello my friend …. hello.
